Singh Lab
A Host-pathogen Interaction and Translational Science (HITS) Laboratory
Our research focuses on understanding our body's defense mechanisms against pathogens and translating that knowledge into innovative vaccine and immunotherapies
RESEARCH
Candida auris is an emerging fungal pathogen. Candida auris has rapidly emerged globally, is often resistant to all major antifungal drugs, and has an associated high mortality rate (~60%). Due to these reasons, the CDC and WHO have declared Candida auris an "Urgent Threat". Candida auris can colonize human skin and cause invasive infection in immunocompromised, hospitalized patients harboring indwelling medical devices (e.g. central venous catheters). The mechanism of Candida auris pathogenesis and its virulence traits are still unknown.
Singh HITS Lab uses cutting-edge bioinformatics, immuno-proteomics, and molecular biology approaches to characterize Candida auris cell surface proteins called adhesins and identify novel surface proteins. We aim to understand Canadida auris-host pathogenic and immune mechanisms and leverage this knowledge to develop novel immune-based prophylactic and therapeutic interventions using clinically relevant infection models.
